Delhi Daredevils vs. Rajasthan Royals

These two sides, if they don’t pull their socks up, might be the two squad fighting for bottom 2 spots. Their bowling looks weak and batting did not click in the first match apart from Samson and Gambhir. While it took a ravishing knock from KL Rahul to outclass Delhi; Rajasthan Royals meekly surrendered. They are anyways very weak on bowling part. None of the bowlers in either of the squads looked threatening.

Our Prediction: Delhi Daredevils.

Reasoning: They have a settled batting core with Gambhir, Pant, Shreyas, Munro, Christian, Morris. Amit Mishra did not click in the first match but he will soon be back to rhythm or they can fall back to shahbaz nadeem. Trent Boult along with Liam Plunkett offer them good option in fast bowling. Munro did not fire in first match but he is a match winner and they have a replacement ready in Jason Roy. All they need to do is start taking responsibility now.

Rajasthan Royals top 4 players are all openers. Rahane, Short, Tripathi, Samson. They are good batsmen but they need to settle in different role then what they are used. Samson can adjust because he has played a lot with Dravid who was known for shuffling. The issue with them will sooner or later be their bowling. They don't have anything threatening. The only change they can do is bringing in Jeffra Archer for Laughlin. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes need to get back in form if these sides want to revive their chances. Buttler is regarded as one of best finishers of current times and he needs to come good for this time. Their bowling can’t be helped. They will see occasional good spells but it will be hard for their bowling unit to fire as a whole. Two bowlers will be taken for runs each match. But then, except for SRH none of the bowling units actually look threatening.

Note: It's T20. Chasing Helps. Even Individuals can turn the match on its heads and that's all the excitement about it.

Probable 11:

Delhi Daredevils

Gautam Gambhir (c), Amit Mishra, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Shami, Colin Munro, Trent Boult, Vijay Shankar, Chris Morris, Shreyas Iyer,

Rahul Tewatia, Rishabh Pant (wk)

  • The ones in bold are expected to retain their places in the squad. The three not in bold can be replaced by Liam Plunkett, Prithvi Shaw, Shahbaz Nadeem. However, Not all three replacements are expected. Given the credentials of Colin Munro as an opener and experience of Amit Mishra; it might not be the right decision for the side to replace them just after one encounter. We are left with Mohammad Shami; he can be replaced by Shahbaz Nadeem, Jayant Yadav or Harshal Patel depending on the pitch. Shami’s limited over form always looked dicey.

Rajasthan Royals

Ajinkya Rahane (c), D Arcy Short, Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Rahul Tripathi, Jos Buttler (wk), Krishnappa Gowtham, Shreyas Gopal, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jaydev Unadkat, Ben Laughlin

What do they replace? Well firstly their middle order is weak and they need a faster openers first. Darcy Short is very fine prospect but the only place for him is at the opening. Samson played well in the last match and he may have cemented his place at first fall of wicket. They might want to give this squad another run with slight tweaks rather than overhauls. Ben Laughlin may be replaced with Jeffra Archer. They will have to do with this Spin combo or replace one of them with Lormor etc. They don’t have experience in spin department and this battle was lost at auctions table itself. They are just fine in fast bowling.

Key Players(DD): Gambhir, Pant, Iyer, Munro, Morris, Maxwell

Key Players(RR): Darcy Short, Rahane, Stokes, Buttler, Samson

Cautious Note: With time, these teams have realized the importance of a strong bowling squad. Therefore, there might be an inclination to make bowling strong with overseas bowlers and keep batting with Indian. In that case, this may be the probable 11

DD: Gautam Gambhir (c), Colin Munro, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell

, Rishabh Pant (wk), Chris Morris, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Shahbaz Nadeem/Jayant Yadav/Amit Mishra, Trent Boult/Liam Plunkett

But I doubt they will do this. I consider DD strong enough to challenge RR comfortably because of their superior bowling.

Dream11 pick

Joes Buttler, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Gautam Gambhir, D Short, Ajinkya Rahane, Chris Morris, Glenn Maxwell, Shreyas Gopal, Rahul Tewatia, Trent Boult.

May the best team win. #EnjoytheGame.
